On the negative side, you and your peers may be guilty of being overly critical of other generations, or of being "me" first and self-centered, without an awareness or an interest in sacrificing for others. However, the noblest quality of Virgo is service, and if you tap into that virtue you can truly be of great value to others on the planet. These people make great nurses, doctors, physical therapists, or other types of healers; they can also make excellent detail workers, such as computer specialists.
During 1961-1968, Pluto was in conjunction with Uranus in Virgo, causing much student unrest, criticism of values and general friction against the older generation. Remember this generation has the power to transform its energy, purify the old and get rid of leftover selfishness or tyranny from an outdated, pre-Civil Rights era. In their reaction against the baby boomers, they may obsess about details and seek perfection, yet with Uranus in the picture they are constantly thrown off track and forced to start over again. Pluto, however, gives them the power and energy to begin with gusto, and to attempt to change the world.
Pluto in the Eighth House
Because Pluto's position within the solar system is different from all other planets--it is farther away and has a different orbiting pattern--astrologers tend to view it as an unconventional planet, with invisible almost "underground" energy that can emit subterranean forces which need to be channeled and controlled to be used effectively. It is said that the house in which Pluto is found in can be a source of difficulty if that energy is blocked in some way, causing problems that need to be overcome or purged in order to get on with life. On the other hand, Pluto's placement in a house can represent the highest energy level an individual can achieve in terms of destiny and his or her relationship to a 'group consciousness' or life attunement. It can reveal the heights or lowest depths a person can reach, and can also determine how an individual uses or is used by its powerful energy.
Pluto in the eighth house is a powerful placement, giving you increased intuition and sometimes even a mystical nature or psychic ability. It may also mean increased emotions and emphasis on sex, but feelings and sexual expression may not necessarily flow easily or positively. You may have to control your appetites and desires, including your desire to control others. Sexual problems can occur here, and you may need to seek help through professional counseling.
You may have an increased interest in all of the 'occult' subjects of the eighth house--life after death, reincarnation, spiritualism and anything to do with the psychic senses. If you are self-aware, you may be able to tap into the psychic healing arts and truly help yourself and others. Contrary to this, if Pluto is poorly aspected, you may be a drain on other people's emotional and spiritual resources, and experience yourself a degeneration of energies. If this is the case, learn to overcome any weaknesses by dying to your old self and undergoing a rebirth and renewal. After all, the death of the personality and birth of soul power is the promise of a higher side of Pluto--just as one goes into darkness to find light. Through insight and self-mastery, learn to stand alone and give outwardly to others with a sincere desire, using your own resources. This will nurture great strength and resourcefulness in crisis situations.
Pluto here also makes you shrewd and intuitive regarding money and developing joint resources with a partner, and you may gain through a financial legacy. If the planet is afflicted in some way, you may experience problems with insurance, inheritance, taxes, or other people's money.
Elements
In a birth chart, we identify four different elements that point to different kinds of life energy: Air, Water, Earth, and Fire. The presence of these elements in our charts tell us something about our basic personalities and motivations.
In your chart, we find that the EARTH element dominates. This means that what primarily motivates you are material needs such as security, money, and having the ability to get by in the world by using your skills to support yourself. You are likely more practical than intuitive, preferring to use your five senses to take in necessary information rather than using a lot of airy theories or inspirational thoughts. You are probably regarded as a "real" down to earth type of person who is patient, disciplined, and who can find a niche or place in the world of work since it is important for you to survive, eke out a basic living, and meet the needs of yourself and your family. Though you are not forthright and assertive like the fire signs, you can speak out when you feel something endangers your security. You are efficient, dependable, conventional, and cautious, yet can be suspicious about people who seem to have their "head in the clouds" full of ideas, like the air signs. Of all the signs you trust the watery people the most, perhaps because they have the same self-protectiveness, depth and retentiveness you have. The only negative qualities of the earth element is that it can be too practical, lacking in imagination, narrow in its outlook, and addicted to a routine or order. Try to go beyond your own depth, to see beyond the structure of what is there, and to stretch your airy mind so it can deal more with abstract ideas and theories. This will open you up to the reality of the unseen world and add a wisdom to your practical, common sense approach to daily life. Your biggest lesson is to learn to let go of material things, for only by learning detachment can you learn to serve others.
The second most frequent element found in your chart is the WATER element. This element will also shape who you are, although its influence is not as strong as your primary element. This means that you are motivated mostly by deep yearnings, by emotions, by unseen psychic nuances, and by feelings. Having a lot of water in your chart gives you the ability to get in touch with your own feelings, and at the same time, gives you an added capacity to experience and express true empathy and compassion towards others. Thus, you will find many people in the healing or psychic professions with a water connection in their charts. Water symbolizes the cooling, instinctual response and the sensitive nature a friend might show someone who is troubled over a broken heart. On a deeper level, it may reveal an intense yearning or compelling desire towards spirituality, love, or some other noble truth or virtue. Many times this "watery" feeling manifests itself unconsciously, where the individual is unaware of the power that really motivates him or her. The task for a person who has much of the water element in a chart is to get in tune with the deeper dimensions of life, and to channel his or her intuition into a positive direction that can help others, especially through empathy and psychic response. If you are not aware of your own feelings, however, it becomes virtually impossible to tap into a higher consciousness or to help others, and it is easier to become prey to irrational fears and compulsions. Watery people are happiest when their fluid is channeled and "given form" by someone else, especially by earth signs. They are repelled by the bawdy, burning fire signs. Watery people are secretive, contained, even if they may have storms brewing inside, which can lead to much emotional instability. Remember that water has much force and penetrating power if focused and channeled correctly. It symbolizes gaining consciousness slowly, and provides a deep stillness and reflection for others to draw guidance from.
Lack of Fire
As human beings we all exude a certain amount of energy, which in the birth chart is symbolized by four elements: earth, air, water and fire. Two of these elements, fire and air, and representative of the Chinese principle of Yang and usually are more dynamic, active, self-expresive, and can always be seen in social interaction, verbal expression, and physical activity. The other two, water and earth, represent the Chinese principle of Yin and show the passive, receptive qualities of life, often unconsciously and instinctively. These types of people live more within themselves and don't show much action without thinking about it first, and without using a lot of caution and intensity.
Some people actually show a lack of an element, in which case there is a side to their personality which is undeveloped, or something which they are not consciously in contact with and which needs to be cultivated in order to achieve a fully developed and well-rounded life. In your chart, there is a lack of the fire element, which means the fundamental vital principal of trusting life is missing, and you are probably not high spirited or intense in your interactions with people. Challenges may scare you, and major problems probably will take a long time to overcome since you lack the gusto to fight and the courage to overcome any of life's obstacles. A lack of fire could also mean no joy, no faith, no optimism, poor self-confidence, and a basic lack of enthusiasm in most actions. Physical exercise is highly recommended to give you the energy you need to counter all of these negative traits, and you should also watch your diet very carefully, especially if you also lack earth elements in your chart: a healthy, moderate diet could sustain you and set you on an even course. The key here is to do everything with moderation, so as to not exhaust the energy that you do have: conserve, conserve, conserve. You probably have an abundance of patience; use it with wisdom. You also probably lack all of the negative fire qualities--being brash, overbearing, or impatient--which could make youa very tactful diplomat, depending on the other elements in your chart
